2008 TURA PROGRAM

March 2008

The Massachusetts Toxics Use Reduction Act of 1989 encourages a reduction in the amount of toxics and other resources used in Massachusetts and the amount of toxic byproducts and other wastes generated. The law was amended in 2006 to provide flexibility in planning and to focus the program on higher hazard substances. This portal provides links to training and assistance from MassDEP, the Office of Technical Assistance (OTA), and the Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) --the three agencies that implement the TURA Program. By finding safer and more efficient alternatives, Massachusetts companies can remain competitive in the marketplace while protecting employees, consumers, and the environment.
