Ophir Optics applied Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools and methodologies to reduce toxic chemical use, including a 70 percent reduction in volatile organic chemicals that saved the company $15,000. A producer of high performance optical lenses used in defense, security and commercial applications, Ophir Optics also reduced the quantity of hazardous waste shipped by two thirds saving $60,000 in associated costs. The company achieved $1 million in efficiency improvements through the implementation of continuous manufacturing flow cells and standardized work and saved more than $100,000 in scrap reduction.
