Wednesday April 08 2015 - WEBINAR: Integrating Chemical Hazard Assessment into Product Design

Product designers and EH&S professionals have a responsibility to evaluate the hazards potentially associated with chemicals used in products and processes.  However, the amount of information that can be derived from the typical material safety data sheet often does not include data needed to determine if an alternative is in fact safer than the toxic you are considering replacing.  The GreenScreen® for Safer Chemicals, developed by Clean Production Action, is a tool designed to help you make more informed decisions.  

In this webinar you will learn about integrating robust chemical hazard assessments into product design and procurement. Our presenter, Shari Franjevic, will walk us through the steps of the GreenScreen®, including benchmarking alternatives to help guide the product design process.  She will also discuss opportunities for more advanced training on implementation of the GreenScreen® tool.  You will hear from current Authorized GreenScreen® Practitioners, as well as the leading toxicologists who teach advanced skills associated with the GreenScreen® Practitioner Program, about how you can apply both the tool and the program in your organization.   There will be time for an on-line Q&A session. 
The focus of Ms. Franjevic's work is to advance selection and use of inherently safer ingredients in the design of materials, products, and processes.   Over the past eight years, Shari has consulted to, among others, Clean Production Action (CPA), and has facilitated Technical Committees for the USEPA Design for the Environment.  In her work with GreenScreen®, she led the creation of and now manages the education and training program, and provides on-going support to CPA for continual improvement of the method.

The Massachusetts Toxics Use Reduction Institute has provided training on the GreenScreen® tool at past continuing education conferences, and is pleased to recommend this webinar to MA TUR Planners and Ontario Toxic Substance Reduction Planners.
