Wednesday April 22 2015 - Allston Collision Center Recognition Ceremony

TURA 25th Anniversary Leadership Tours

For Demonstrating Environmental Leadership through Toxics Use Reduction and Resource Conservation

Allston Collision Center, Allston
Date: April 22, 2015
Location: 420 Cambridge St, Boston, MA 02135

Allston Collision Center’s management and staff have adopted every practice available to improve environmental health and safety in its auto body shop. A small, family-owned business since 1928, Allston Collision uses water-based paints reducing the need for solvents. Workers use a water-based cleaning system for spray guns that have been used for water-based paint. However, paint thinner is still necessary for cleaning guns that are used for applying clear coat – the protective seal that’s applied over the paint. For this application, the company installed a system that recycles the thinner for reuse, reducing waste and worker exposure to harmful chemicals. Committed to protecting the health of workers and the surrounding community, Allston Collision Center is a model example for other small businesses in practicing toxics use reduction, pollution prevention and recycling.
