Aerospace/Defense
The aerospace and defense industries represent major customers of many Massachusetts manufacturers. The critical needs of these industries demand a high level of control over the manufacture of products used. Commonly referred to as "Mil Specs", the requirements of the various arms of the military can limit opportunities for TUR for Massachusetts companies in this supply chain.
The TURA program has designated several chemicals commonly found in Mil Specs as high hazard substances, including lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and trichloroethylene.
TURI is working with Massachusetts manufacturers in this supply chain to address performance requirements associated with Mil Specs that mention these and other chemicals with a goal of moving the specifications towards safer alternatives.
Increased focus on research, technology innovation and industry assistance is warranted as the Aerospace/Defense industry works to implement more TUR. If you are interested in collaborating with TURI on this focus, contact Greg Morose at 978-934-2954 to learn more.
