Massachusetts has strict new reporting thresholds for certain hazardous industrial chemicals, the first being trichloroethylene. The Lab can help companies find safer substances that work,. Sometimes a technology change may be necessary to use a safer product. TURI awards technology grants to companies as well as dry cleaning facilities.

Companies that use at least 1,000 pounds of these chemicals annually must now:

• report their use to the Department of Environmental Protection
• pay fees
• prepare toxics use reduction plans
