Community

(Attendees learn about organic lawn care demonstration projects in Ayer and Stoneham from NOFA/Mass Project Manager Kathy Litchfield at the TURI State House event in June 2010. NOFA/Mass was one of three community grant recipients this past year honored at the event)

TURI's Community Program strives to help organizations raise awareness of the hazards of toxic chemical use and introduce safer alternatives within their neighborhoods.

We do this by providing:

  • Grants to non-profit organizations and municipalities
  • Education, training and outreach on toxic use reduction methods and alternatives
  • Resources to assist communities and individuals reduce toxics

On this web site you can learn about our Community Grant Program; visit a model community to explore how schools, homes, small businesses, and more can all work towards establishing toxic-free neighborhoods; and learn about toxics that show up in our daily lives through activities such as pest control, cleaning, dry cleaning, personal care, home renovations and more.

What's New?

  • Our Community Tip Sheets are now available in Vietnamese, Spanish, and Portuguese, please follow the links at the bottom of this page to download.
  • TURI continues to work with the dry cleaning sector in teaching them about the professional wet cleaning option. Check out more about that program here.
