What is Toxics Use Reduction (TUR)?
If you don’t use toxic chemicals to begin with, then you don’t need to worry about clean up, disposal or potential health risks. That’s the concept behind Toxics Use Reduction (TUR) in Massachusetts. TUR is a pollution prevention concept that involves planning to find opportunities for chemical reductions or elimination.
The planning process involves examining your practices, inventorying the toxics being used, and investigating safer alternative products and processes. TUR has been successfully used at the industrial level in Massachusetts since 1989 and the same process can be applied in small businesses, municipal operations and even households.
