Internal Auditing an Environmental Management System

An integral component of an EMS that provides assurance of good faith TUR planning is an effective internal auditing procedure. This course provides the information you need to accomplish this goal.
This one-day workshop takes participants through all stages of an internal audit. The goal is to develop auditing techniques and to emphasize the business value of conducting an effective audit. Using a mix of homework, lecture and role-play activities, participants will prepare for, conduct, and report on an EMS audit against the ISO 14001 standard. Attendees will also learn how to develop an effective audit program, establish or improve an existing internal audit system, and how to use internal audits for the greatest business benefit. This course does not meet the requirements for a full ISO 14001 lead auditor training.
The course is designed for industry professionals or consultants who are already familiar with the elements of an effective EMS and will act as internal auditors, and is suitable for all levels of auditing experience.

- Creating an effective EMS audit checklist
- Role of regulatory compliance within an EMS audit
- Conducting effective interviews with employees in an organization
- Writing an EMS audit summary report that adds value for the auditees and business
- Verifying the completeness and effectiveness of corrective actions
- Communicating audit results effectively to management
About the Instructors
This workshop will be taught by Janet Clark and Pam Civie of TURI. Janet and Pam both have extensive industry and management system experience and have received Lead Auditor Training.
