File Synopsis: Naturally occurring polymers have attracted considerable interest from polymer scientists in recent years. This interest is due in part to an increased awareness in the environment and the desire to produce environmentally safe materials. We are currently investigating the biosynthesis of PGA by B. licheniformis 9945a, looking at the utilization of carbon sources and effects of the divalent cations in the medium on the resulting polymer. By understanding the physiology of PGA production, we hope to manipulate the fermentation conditions in order to create new polymers with various functional properties. Download file...
