$20,000 Funding Opportunity for Academic Year 2008

Each year the Toxics Use Reduction Institute offers funding for research that supports our mission of reducing the use of toxic chemicals in industries, academia and communities in the Commonwealth. This year up to $20,000 is available to fund research projects conducted by University of Massachusetts faculty throughout the UMass system.

TURI seeks proposals on research focus areas that have particular relevance to Massachusetts companies as well as to local, state, national and/or international policies associated with the use of chemicals and materials. The following suggested focus areas are not intended to be exclusive, however, and researchers are encouraged to contact TURI to discuss research ideas.

  • Alternatives to Certain More Hazardous Substances
  • Minimizing Impact on the Environment through Resource Conservation
  • Safer Alternatives to Specific Chemicals of Concern in the Commonwealth
  • Toxics Use Reduction for Small Businesses, and
  • Less Toxic Products, such as in Cosmetics, Green Building Materials and Brake Cleaners

Proposals are due no later than July 27, and grant awards will be announced no later than August 17, 2007. TURI anticipates offering no more than three $20,000 grants for the 2008 academic year.

Researchers can contact Pam Civie, TURI's Industry Research Program Manager, at 978-934-3142 or via email at pcivie@turi.org.
