Session Descriptions
Concurrent Morning Sessions from 9:00 to Noon Choose One:
A1: Practical Approaches to Materials Declarations
Many industries face increasingly challenging restrictions on the use of certain materials due to legislative and competitive forces. As a result, many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are issuing materials declarations, requiring their suppliers to declare that the products they manufacture do not contain restricted or banned substances. Such material declarations are often confusing, rarely consistent and can pose significant challenges to companies throughout a supply chain. This session addresses some of these challenges and summarizes initiatives to streamline material declarations efforts.
A2: Optimizing your EMS
This interactive session focuses on effective, value-added implementation of an EMS. It demonstrates how to utilize your EMS to create monetary and stakeholder value for your company. Through case studies and facilitated interaction, participants will learn strategies to create effective programs and measures within a new or existing management system that can add value to the company as a whole.
Concurrent Afternoon Sessions from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Choose One
B1: The Toxicology of High Priority Substances
State and federal environmental requirements that target certain persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic substances are becoming increasingly stringent and affecting more companies than ever. Chemicals such as lead, mercury, arsenic, trichloroethylene and dioxin have recently been designated in Massachusetts as high-priority substances (HSP). In this session, Doctor Robert E. Burr, a distinguished physician and toxicologist, presents a fascinating and approachable look at how these and other toxic chemicals affect the body.
B2: Non-Production TUR – Reducing Toxics in Facility Operations and Maintenance, Municipal Operations, Small Businesses and Homes
Traditionally, the Toxics Use Reduction Institute has worked with several sectors- business and industry, state and local government, and the public. This session will bring together the fruits of our labors in the area of non-production TUR. Innovative toxics use reduction strategies have been developed for practicing TUR in manufacturing facilities, municipal buildings (e.g. schools), small businesses, and homes. The strategies will inspire you in your professional and personal life by giving you tools that you can use at your facility, home, and beyond.
