Meeting of the Administrative Council on Toxics Use Reduction

The next meeting of the Toxics Use Reduction Administrative Council will be on July 31, 2007. It will be held from 1:30pm – 3:30pm, 100 Cambridge Street, 2nd Floor, Conference D, Boston, MA. This will be the first meeting of this body since it has been reconstituted under the 2006 amendments of the Toxics Use Reduction Act (TURA).

At this meeting we will provide a briefing on the TURA amendments including the new rules allowing companies that have completed TURA planning to conduct alternative planning or implement TURA-compliant environmental management systems (EMS). The DEP will be presenting information on the proposed regulations for these new program features that are currently out for public comment.

There will be an update on the activities of TURI’s Science Advisory Board (SAB). The SAB has recommended to TURI that 10 chemicals be classified as “high hazard chemicals” and that eight chemicals are classified as “low hazard chemicals”. TURI will present information on SAB’s deliberations on the chemical classification and the retention of certain CERCLA chemicals.
