TUR Planning
Toxics Use Reduction (TUR) Planning is a fundamental form of pollution prevention that focuses on industrial activities to promote safer and cleaner production and to enhance economic viability. For schedule information on TUR Planner training, see TURI's Calendar.
Benefits of Planning
- Gain detailed information about production process effiiciency.
- Learn where money is spent on non-product outputs.
- Identify total chemical costs and liabilities
- Confidently consider technology innovation or new technology adoption.
Through TUR Planning, companies in Massachusetts have reduced their toxic waste by 40% since 1989. Although allowed to set their own goals, companies are finding the rewards in savings and in the marketplace from making progress in TUR.
Planning Requirements
Companies must have a policy that encourages TUR, and must do TUR planning on a biannual basis. To accomplish this, planning teams are created, and the team engages the workforce in analyzing production processes, conducting materials accounting and cost identification programs, auditing health and environmental regulations, and identifying TUR options. In-house or consulting TUR Planners, trained and technically qualified in the planning process are required to certify the TUR plan.
