Standard Testing Procedures
Standardized Testing Procedures at SSL
A majority of the lab’s testing has been focused on Parts Cleaning. To that end, the SSL uses a modified version of the ASTM Standard G122 (www.astm.org). The main difference between the ASTM standard and the SSL testing is that we use our clients specific soils in place of the “synthetic” soil specified. In addition, the SSL bases its results on a percent removal rate and not the soil removed per surface area. However, this calculation can be easily made when requested or required by our clients.

In addition to parts cleaning, the SSL has developed several evaluation methods that have been acknowledged and accepted by Green Seal (www.greenseal.org) as Alternative Performance Requirements or various standards that are concentrated on cleaning applications both in parts cleaning, janitorial cleaning and household cleaning. |

Green Seal’s definition of Alternative Performance Requirements
Alternatively, using standard test methods conducted under objective, reproducible laboratory conditions, a manufacturer can demonstrate that its product performs as well as or better than a conventional, nationally-recognized product in its category or achieves the removal efficiency defined in this section with alternate test methods and has a documented rational for the method modification for Green Seal’s review.
