SESSION SUMMARIES

[A. "Nanomaterials: Promise and Precaution" ]

Nanotech is not the future. It’s happening today. Companies everywhere are using

nanomaterials in a mind-boggling number of applications. However, while much work is

being done to develop the practical issues of design, engineering and integration of

nanomaterials, very little attention has been paid to the possible environmental and health

effects of such widespread us e and dispersion of nanomaterials. This session will present

the work of several companies and researchers to develop practical commercial and

manufacturing applications for nanomaterials. It will also describe collaborative

initiatives to understand the mechanisms by which nanomaterials interact with humans

and the environment and the effects of those interactions.

[B. "Covering Your Assets: How Secure are the Chemical Operations at Your

Facility?"]

This session brings together experts from government, industry and insurance companies

to address the increasingly important issue of security in facilities that use hazardous

chemicals. Participants will learn about chemical security issues related to physical

infrastructure, property and intellectual asset protection, business interruption, as well as

the current legislative and regulatory climate. The aim of this session is to highlight the

most common chemical security vulnerabilities, misconceptions and misunderstandings

about security and liability, as well as to provide strategies and practical counter measure

approaches to ensure long-term safety and economic competitiveness at your facility.

[C. "Innovative and emerging P2 and TUR Technologies"]

This session highlights some of the most innovative techniques companies and federal

facilities are using to reduce their use of toxics, while simultaneously improving

performance. Topics will include: the "lotus effect," a technique that can be used to

create self-cleaning surfaces; improved surface coating techniques for antifouling and

corrosion resistance; environmental technology verification; and VOC reduction

techniques in fiberglass molding.

[D. "It’s a Small World: How do International Chemical Policies Affect Your

Company?"]

What is REACH and why should you care? How will the European Union directives

affect your company? What are the broader business implications of the phaseout of

brominated flame retardants? How are Asian policies shaping global chemicals

management and industry behavior? What are the business opportunities associated with

these policies? This session features a panel of policy and industry experts who will

provide answers to these and other questions. The goal is to enable you to go beyond

mere understanding of and compliance with various international policies and regulations

to help your company determine how to best position itself in the ever evolving global

marketplace.
