Overview

The Institute provides an array of training and educational opportunities for managers, technicians and consultants who work to improve the environment and the health and safety of the Commonwealth.

The core function of TURI's educational efforts is to train professionals to become Massachusetts-certified Toxics Use Reduction Planners. The TUR planner course is 48 hours long and is held at varying locations throughout the state, with one or two training days per week.

Once certified, Planners must meet certain requirements to maintain their certification, including obtaining a minimum number of continuing education credits. TURI provides numerous training opportunities for planners to acquire these credits throughout the year.

There are also training programs to enhance Planners' skills in the areas of Resource Conservation and/or Environmental Management System planning, as authorized in the 2006 Amendments to the Toxics Use Reduction Act. Upon completion of the appropriate training classes, and approval from DEP, the Planner is eligible to certify the alternative plans created by the Amendments.

Finally, there are training and education programs of general interest to the community that we serve, such as lead-free electronics, and chemical management services.
