Monday May 09 2011 - Ophir Optics Cleaner Technologies Demonstration

Event at Ophir Optics in North Andover will focus on incorporating Toxics Use Reduction into lean manufacturing and Six Sigma.

Focus: Incorporating Toxics Use Reduction Into Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma

Join us as we learn about the innovative ways Ophir Optics has found to use Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma approaches to significantly reduce toxic chemicals, hazardous waste, and energy consumption.
Ophir Optics designs and produces a full range of high performance optical lenses and elements for defense, security and commercial applications. Ophir Optics has utilized lean manufacturing and six sigma tools and methodologies for a variety of projects at their manufacturing facility located in North Andover, Massachusetts.

DEMONSTRATION SITE AGENDA:

Time: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Refreshments will be provided.

1. Hear from Ophir Optics staff about:
  • Their businesses and products.
  • The identification of toxics use reduction options at the facility.
  • The training and other requirements needed for initiating lean manufacturing and six sigma initiatives at a manufacturing facility.
  • A description of lean manufacturing and six sigma initiatives undertaken at Ophir Optics.
  • A review of improvements and savings achieved in the areas of inventory, lead time, energy consumption, hazardous waste, space requirements, and use of toxic chemicals.
2. Participate in a facility tour and visit areas of the manufacturing facility where various lean manufacturing and six sigma projects have been completed.
3. Discuss ways that your company could adopt some of the methods and strategies that Ophir Optics has used to its advantage.

ABOUT OPHIR OPTICS

Ophir's 40,000 sq.ft. of facilities are capable of producing large quantities of optics quickly and cost-effectively. All manufacturing is done in-house, using automated CNC and proprietary Diamond Turning technologies. Innovative engineering and design result in fewer parts, increased efficiency and lighter-weight lenses.

Ophir Optics encompasses advanced technologies for the manufacturing of infrared optics elements including: spherical, aspherical and diffracted optical components, mirrors, metallic optics and windows. These products are used in electro-optical systems for military, homeland security, commercial and industrial applications, ranging from Night Vision equipment to industrial metal processing.
Ophir has expanded its optical and mechanical design department to offer a wide variety of complete, unique and highly effective lens assemblies and broadened its product lines to include the design and manufacturing of optical elements for CO2 high power lasers used in industry for laser cutting and welding machines.

Participation in the demonstration event has been approved by MassDEP for 3 credits towards your TUR Planner or Resource Conservation Planner certification requirements.

FEE: Events are provided to Massachusetts organizations and TUR Planners for free. Organizations outside of Massachusetts will be charged $25.00.

Please note that Ophir Optics may choose not to allow direct competitors within the optics industry to participate in this event. Seating is limited and registrations will be accepted on a first come/ first served basis.
