Champions of Toxics Use Reduction

Join us in recognizing leaders who are making the Commonwealth a safer and healthier place to live and work.

• Morgan Advanced Ceramics, New Bedford - Eliminated the use of 3,300 pounds of TCE used in a vapor degreaser by switching to a water-based cleaning system.
• MSI Transducers Corp., Littleton - Reduced the use of lead and lead waste generated in the manufacturing process by re-engineering two injection molds.

SMALL BUSINESS CHAMPIONS

• Auto Technology Program at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, Marlborough - Eliminated the use of hazardous solvents by purchasing a bio-based system to clean auto parts.

• Dory Cleaners, Swampscott - Switched from using perchloroethylene (perc) to the safer alternative professional wet cleaning.

• Gymnastics Academy of Boston - Norwood -  Purchased new foam pit cubes without flame retardants to protect the health of children.

COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS

• Don't Take That Receipt!, Haydenville - Raised awareness about Bisphenol-A (BPA) and Bisphenol-S (BPS) in store receipts and encouraged store owners not to print receipts when possible.
• The Field Fund, Inc., Martha's Vineyard - Shared the success of using an organic approach to maintain athletic grass playing fields with other communities.
• Lawrence Fire Department - Visited more than 100 auto body and repair shops in Lawrence to encourage owners to use safer products.
• Worcester Public Schools - Identified safer alternatives for maintaining buildings and busses.
