Session A: TUR Options Identification (Required)
TUR Options Identification is the most creative step in TUR Planning. In this TUR Planner basics, we'll review the essentials of Options Identification, including the 6 types of TUR techniques incorporated in TURA and some new resources for researching alternatives.  Small group activities will provide practice in the use of tools and techniques described  Required of all conference participants for full day's credit.

Concurrent Afternoon Sessions B, C, D (Please Choose One)

Sessions B: Update on Nanomaterials Health & Safety - Dr. Mike Ellenbecker, TURI and Molly Jacobs, Lowell Center for Sustainable Production
This session will review the latest research results concerning engineered nanomaterials EHS, with a particular focus on carbon nanotubes (CNTs). We will review the latest CNT toxicology studies that have found a strong association between multiwall CNTs (MWCNTs) and mesothelioma, and the recent designation of MWCNTs by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a suspect human carcinogen. We will then discuss recent activities in the US and the EU to regulate CNTs, including EPA's activities under TSCA and efforts to develop an occupational exposure limit for CNTs. We will conclude with recommendations for good work practices to be followed when working with engineered nanoparticles.

Session C:  Best Practices in Proactive Chemicals Management - Pam Eliason, TURI, and presenters from companies in current peer-mentoring workgroup
TURI is facilitating a peer-mentoring workgroup that includes Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Essilor USA, Analog Devices, Inc., Entegris, Waters Corporation, Biogen, EMD Millipore and MassMEP. These companies have been sharing best practices and assisting one another with developing strategies for proactive chemicals management.  In this conference session, representatives will present best practices from their companies.  Open to any conference participant.

Session D:  Technical TUR:  Worker protection and process interrelationships - Marko Duffy, Marathon Sales, Kathryn Swanson Flannery, MS, OSHA, Massachusetts Department of Labor
In this session, Marko Duffy, a long-time veteran in the metal fabrication industry, will describe how failure to anticipate all the potential steps in the fabrication process can create incompatibilities and unintended results, leading to unnecessary rework and use of toxics.  Kathryn Swanson Flannery  from OSHA and MA Department of Labor will describe her recent experiences with specific substances, and TUR steps that can be taken to reduce worker exposure.
