Learn about recent updates in efforts to reduce gymnast exposure to flame retardants in this one-hour webinar. Topics covered will include levels of flame retardants in gyms and gymnasts. why flame retardants can be harmful, and what can be done about it, as well as new content on maintaining fire safety without the use of flame retardants, engaging with the fire prevention/protection community, practical aspects of replacing a foam pit, and availability of flame retardant free equipment. The webinar will be followed by a Q&A session.

Speakers include:
· Courtney Carignan, PhD, is a researcher at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, founder of the Gymnast Flame Retardant Collaborative and an expert on flame retardants. She will share her research on flame retardants in gyms, levels in gymnasts, why flame retardants can be harmful, what can be done about it, and an overview of recent flammability testing.

· Joy Onasch, MS, from the Toxics Use Reduction Institute at UMass Lowell, will discuss logistics of conducting a recent intervention study and working with the fire prevention/protection community.

· John Sweeney, owner of Seattle Gymnastics, will discuss the levels of flame retardants measured in his gyms and practical aspects of replacing his foam pits using flame retardant free foam.

· John Deary, owner of Deary’s Gymnastics Supply, will share updates about flame retardants in gymnastics equipment and how to be sure that the equipment you purchase is flame retardant free.
