Professional Wet Cleaning Workgroup
TURI formed the Professional Wet Cleaning Workgroup, nine dry cleaners in Massachusetts who have switched from using perc to professional wet cleaning. The shop owners share best practices on the wet cleaning process and ideas to save money and attract customers. These small businesses are role models for dry cleaners who are still using perchloroethylene, a toxic chemical designated a probable human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

Workgroup Awarded Most Valuable Pollution Prevention (MVP2) Award
The Professional Wet Cleaning Workgroup won a 2014 Most Valuable Pollution Prevention (MVP2) project award presented by the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable.
These small businesses made the switch from using the toxic substance perchloroethylene to Professional Wet Cleaning, a safer, water-based system that allows “dry-clean-only” clothes to be cleaned without toxic chemicals.
The MVP2 awards celebrate the successes of innovators in the areas of pollution prevention and sustainability. The awards were presented during National Pollution Prevention Week, September 15 to 19, 2014.
