Info on your major and what it focuses on?

I am in the general chemical engineering track, as I’m still not 100% sure which field I want to go into after graduation and I don’t want to pigeonhole myself into something that I won’t find interesting in a few years. Much of my studies focus around chemistry on an industrial level, and how reactions and synthesis happens in a factory operation as opposed to in a beaker in a lab.

What you have learned so far at TURI Lab?

I have learned a lot about how lab work is done, and how the testing of specific chemicals for different functions happens. In every lab in school, you’re doing reactions for the exercise, rather than to find information. Here at TURI, we’re doing the tests because we might not know exactly what’s going to happen.

What are your plans for after graduation?

Honestly, I’m not 100% sure. I’m looking into moving over to Germany for a while and seeing what my options are out there. The pharmaceutical companies in Boston are my fallback, and landscaping is my safety.

Projects Worked On in the Lab/ Current Projects: I’ve had to smell a lot of old milk and I’ve done a lot of manual wipe soil tests.
Favorite Part of Working at TURI: Getting paid in general is great, but getting paid to do a job that is fun, educational, and looks good on a resume is even better.
