Westford Water Department Healthy Lawns Project

Project Details

Year: 2007
Location: Westford and surrounding neighborhoods
Project Manager: Jessica Cajigas
Partners: Towns of Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Dunstable, Groton, Littleton, Townsend, Tyngsboro, and Weston; North Central Regional Solid Waste Cooperative, Groton; The Green Guy

For the past two years, the Westford Water Department has worked with partners within Westford and in other towns to educate people about the hazards of chemicals used in lawn care, and the options for safer, healthier lawn care. The Town of Westford recently drafted a town pesticide policy that is awaiting selectman approval. To continue the momentum, this year the Westford Water Department will continue to distribute materials about safer methods for lawn care to the neighboring towns of Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Littleton, and Groton. To further expand, four new towns--Dunstable, Townsend, Tyngsboro, and Weston--will join the project this year. The goal is to raise awareness of the link between pesticide use reduction and protecting water resources and human health. Brochures, materials, and presentations will be distributed to towns, homeowners, garden centers, pediatricians, veterinarians, and lawn care providers.
