Overview of work to be done on the new law

The major activities were reviewed; officially designating 10 more/less hazardous chemicals and reviewing the CERCLA chemicals prior to Aug 1, 2007. The goal is to finalize More Hazardous Chemicals in January, Less Hazardous Chemicals in February, the first set of CERCLA chemicals in March, and the remaining (never reported) CERCLA chemicals in April-June.

More Hazardous Chemicals

The discussion then focused on the More Hazardous Chemicals. Heather shared her list of which chemicals got the most "hits" from the criteria. Members and others shared their lists and the methods they used to get them. Each member focused on slightly different criteria ranging from acute and chronic toxicity, neurotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, BCF, MRLs and IARC ratings. Member;s lists were written on the white board and the chemicals with the most votes were identified as follows:

4 Votes:
Sodium Cyanide
Hydrogen Cyanide

3 Votes:

Phosgene

2 Votes:
Carbon Tetrachloride
Nickel Compounds
Chlorine
Arsenic Compounds
Hexavalent Chromium Compounds
DBCP
Cadmium Compounds
Formaldehyde
Benzene

Perc

The board expressed an interest in knowing which chemicals are currently being reported under TURA. Heather said she would report back on that at the next meeting.

There was a motion to move that the above listed 15 chemicals are forwarded to TURI for Policy Analysis. A supplemental list of 6 chemicals as a reserve to the first 15 was also forwarded. 5 members voted in favor, 1 abstained.

The supplemental list is a list of 6 chemicals with one vote as follows: Fluoroacetic acid, hexachloro 1,3 butadiene, toxaphene, epichlorohydrin, hydrogen fluoride, fuming sulfuric acid.
