Achieving Environmental Justice Through Toxics Use Reduction
June 4, 2025

Wednesday June 4, 2025 – 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm (Online)
This session will focus on how businesses, communities, and governments can use Toxics Use Reduction to strengthen the protection of vulnerable groups from pollution and achieve environmental justice goals.
Background
Environmental Justice is based on the principle that everyone has a right to be protected from environmental hazards regardless of race, national origin or income. TURI’s 2025 Environmental Justice Report highlights Toxics Use Reduction (TUR) as a best practice approach for strengthening the protection of vulnerable communities from harmful chemicals. While the progress in Massachusetts is commendable, the report’s analysis of data reported by facilities in the Commonwealth shows considerable opportunities to protect the health, well-being, and environment of groups most vulnerable to toxic exposures.
Agenda
Join us for a free 1-hour webinar to hear from expert speakers on how businesses, advocates, and government agencies use TUR to achieve environmental justice goals. The session will include key findings from TURI’s recent report along with guidance for companies and communities wishing to design and execute their own environmental justice strategies.
Speakers
Kayla Powers – Environmental Justice Manager at Clean Production Action
Michelle Peedin – Community Outreach Associate for New England at Environmental Protection Network
Colin Hannahan – Policy Analyst at the Toxics Use Reduction Institute.
