Healthy Homes and Neighborhoods
Local communities, neighborhoods, city and town governments and individuals all have opportunities to reduce toxic chemicals in daily life.
For example, safer cleaning and disinfecting products exist for use at home, in restaurants and government buildings. Organic lawn care methods can be used rather than using pesticides. Foam used in furniture and in children’s items that isn’t coated with flame retardants do exist.
Neighborhood gyms like Donoma Gym have found opportunities to eliminate use of foam pit cubes that contain flame retardants. Read the press release or view a December 2023 CBS news story.

PFAS: The Forever Chemical
PFAS are chemicals found in non-stick cookware, fabric, furniture and water resources. See the infographic on created by one of our grant recipients, the Clean Water Fund, and read more about their project.
