TURI Communications Manager
The TURI Communications Manager will manage all TURI’s external communications, including overseeing the TURI website, social media, newsletters, video production, print publications, and press relations. The Communications Manager will also develop outreach content, align communications to TURI’s strategic plan, analyze communication effectiveness, and leverage relationships with audiences.
Position Overview:
TURI is seeking a creative, quick-on-their-feet communications specialist to help us in sharing the story of our groundbreaking work to protect human health and the environment. The person holding this position will have the opportunity to help TURI reimagine our outreach and engagement with external stakeholders. This position will work with key staff to identify and craft success stories in a compelling and inviting way, which appeal to a variety of audiences including businesses both small and large, the public-at-large, environmental advocates, worker representatives, governments and technical researchers. The successful candidate will develop and implement outreach strategies in alignment with our new strategic five-year plan, focused on developing solutions to protect people and the planet from toxic pollution.
Essential Job Duties:
- Manage TURI's communication efforts by working with TURI leaders to determine external messaging, strategize methods, and distribute communications through various mediums
- Ensure that communications align with TURI's strategic plan, including collaborating with cross-functional TURI teams
- Plan and oversee the creation of outreach content
- Improve communication impact by analyzing the effectiveness of communication strategies and tools
- Coordinate TURI's communication efforts with stakeholders and the public by maintaining relationships with key groups and planning outreach events

TURI Safer Chemicals Lab Technician
Help companies reduce their environmental impact by replacing hazardous solvents with safer, environmentally safer alternatives. The TURI Safer Chemicals Lab Technician will help identify, develop, test and promote adoption of safer alternatives to toxic chemicals used in industrial cleaning applications. In this role you will:
- Perform lab experiments to evaluate performance of safer cleaning chemistries and processes
- Assist with other performance testing and EHS evaluation
- Document and support lab operations, including working with Lab students

TURI Learning Specialist (consultancy)
The Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) is seeking an expert in instructional design or adult learning to assist in evaluating and improving how we train professionals to help companies protect our environment, workers and communities. TURI currently uses online and in-person training methods for education curricula to help move businesses toward safer chemicals, production and products. Learn more here. The Learning Specialist will evaluate our current approach and material, with a view toward identifying new and improved ways of presenting our materials to a broader audience, particularly a younger demographic of change agents and future leaders focused on proactively embedding safer practices in sustainability efforts.
Specific tasks include:
- Evaluating and improving our curricula to better engage professionals and students;
- Conceptualizing a series of training videos and other material designed to engage a new generation of practitioners; and
- Recommending instructional design strategies to create more engaging and impactful learning experience.
Candidates must have at least 5 years of directly related professional experience in:
- Education or instructional design, particularly for adult education curricula;
- Assessing impact of training design on audience behaviors; and/or
- Developing various education/information sharing methods, such as videos.
Desired additional qualifications include:
- Experience in developing and/or delivering STEM education;
- Experience working with environmental health or occupational health focused organizations; and/or
- Experience developing technical training content for private or public sector clients.
