Overview

Groundwork Lawrence is conducting workshops about toxics found in common household cleaners and how to make safer cleaning products. Working with bodegas in the community, Groundwork Lawrence is sharing home recipes for safer cleaning products, as well as creating demonstrations, pamphlets, and a video for local access TV and family health centers.

Results

Groundwork Lawrence created an new all-purpose cleaner recipe that did not contain borax . By the end of June, the bodegas received Green Cleaning displays for their healthy aisles. Displays will included green cleaning samples and booklets. Each store was given a supply of 360 samples and booklets to re-stock their display shelves. 1,180 samples and 1,180 booklets total will be distributed to Lawrence residents.
The PSA/demonstration about green cleaning was filmed and aired on LCAT (Lawrence Cable Access TV) reaching approximately 5,000 residents. 
1,000 one-page information flyers handed out at the Senior Center, Lawrence-Methuen Community Coalition, Northern Essex Community College, Senior Day at the North Common, and at an Arlington School.  The demonstration held at the school reached 97 parents and students.  Overall, a wide range of individuals were educated in safer cleaning products.
