MetroWest Prevention & Wellness Partnership; Healthy Homes Initiative

Project Details

Year: 2015
Location: Massachusetts MetroWest
Project Manager: Alexandra DePalo
Partners: Marlborough Board of Health, Framingham Board of Health, Latino Health Insurance Program, Inc., Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center

Overview

The MetroWest Prevention & Wellness Partnership was seeking funding to create tool kits and resources for indoor integrated pest management and healthy household cleaners. The plan was to distribute these materials during asthma home assessments at health care and community locations throughout Hudson, Framingham, and Marlborough. The program's goal is that families with asthmatic children receive accurate education, resources, and materials about how to manage asthma and reduce asthma triggers.

Results

The educational materials and recipe booklets were created, and were translated into Spanish and Portuguese.  Additionally, 350 healthy household cleaning buckets were assembled and given out with said materials.  These were first distributed at the partner sites during health fairs and events.  Long term, by 2017 they aim for 75% of trained staff at partner sites to effectively use the tool kits.  As a result, they hope 75% of families will report using the tool kits to better control asthma triggers between baseline and final home assessments.  These household visits will start July 2015.
