Peer Mentoring Workgroups

An important goal of the Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) is to encourage companies to share their knowledge and techniques to achieve toxics use reduction or resource conservation. The development, promotion and dissemination of sound practices designed to help companies systematically assess the chemicals used in both processes and products manufactured in Massachusetts is one important method to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in the Commonwealth. 

Working as peer mentors, the host facility as well as the participants in a peer mentoring work group can help to find innovative ways to address challenges, and facilitate more rapid implementation of systems that incorporate toxics use reduction more broadly into the business models of their facilities.

A recent peer mentoring work group grant was awarded to Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics (Siemens), Norwood, MA.  This grant offset the costs associated with personnel time, facility space, and materials provided for each of the work group meetings. Development of a case study report about the chemicals management process, associated tools, and the lessons learned from peers is designed to promote the implementation of chemical management systems at other facilities in Massachusetts.
