Transene Eliminates Its Use of PFAS and Saves Money. 2023.

Transene Company, a manufacturer of advanced materials for the electronics industry, wanted to find viable alternatives to PFAS use in semiconductor manufacturing in response to customer demands for PFAS-free products. Funded by a TURI research grant, Prof. Ramaswamy Nagarajan's research team at UMass Lowell, working closely with Transene, identified viable safer alternatives, evaluated the alternatives for toxicity, and did performance testing. After providing evaluation samples of three new, safer etching solutions to several key customers, Transene was able to convert over 90% of its customers to the safer solutions.
